TRAVESIA DE SAL

El proyecto “Travesía de Sal” nace de la inquietud que me genera la lectura de un artículo sobre el llamado “triángulo del litio”, una zona de la Cordillera de los Andes que abarca territorio chileno, boliviano y argentino.
Desde entonces, comienzo a leer a científicos, investigadores, profesores y activistas medioambientales, fundamentalmente chilenos, y a documentarme sobre cómo la ausencia de legislación en materia de minería e industria está afectando de manera muy perjudicial a los salares y humedales andinos, casi todos situados por encima de los 3.500 metros sobre el nivel del mar
Es de suma importancia recalcar la fragilidad de estos ecosistemas que, primero con la industria del cobre, y más recientemente con la extracción del litio, han derivado en la desecación de varias lagunas, lo que ha impactado profundamente en las comunidades indígenas que viven alrededor de los salares.
Todo esto me llevó a plantear un proyecto fotográfico que me posibilitara ahondar en estos temas, recorriendo espacios que me permitieran plasmar la plasticidad y el magnetismo de estos paisajes.
El proyecto incluye un video artístico, que aborda, desde una perspectiva personal, el proceso de formación de la sal. En él se mezclan el fluir del agua de los manantiales, la sedimentación de la sal y la cosecha con los sonidos y voces que acompañan el proceso.

The “Travesía de Sal” project was born from the concern generated by reading an article about the so-called “lithium triangle”, an area in the Andes Mountains that includes Chilean, Bolivian and Argentinean territory.
Since then, I began to read scientists, researchers, professors and environmental activists, mainly Chilean, and to document how the absence of legislation on mining and industry is affecting the Andean salt flats and wetlands, almost all located above 3,500 meters above sea level, in a very detrimental way.
It is extremely important to emphasize the fragility of these ecosystems which, first with the copper industry, and more recently with lithium extraction, have led to the drying up of several lagoons, which has had a profound impact on the indigenous communities living around the salt flats.
All this led me to propose a photographic project that would allow me to delve into these issues, traveling through spaces that would allow me to capture the plasticity and magnetism of these landscapes.
The project includes an artistic video, which addresses, from a personal perspective, the process of salt formation. It mixes the flow of water from the springs, the sedimentation of the salt and the harvest with the sounds and voices that accompany the process.
