En fotografía, la mirada construye el lugar. Ningún sitio existiría antes de ser imagen sin la determinación de alguien que contempla ensimismado. El vínculo no es consciente, requiere un proceso introspectivo, detenerse donde nadie se ha detenido. Asumir como propia esa porción de paisaje es un ejercicio de concentración. Sin esperarlo, de forma espontánea, se crea un intercambio entre el observador atento y ese paraje significante, una correspondencia que al poco se convierte en obsesión. Para un artista expectante, cualquier encuentro con la Naturaleza es una clave a descifrar. Firme ante nuestros ojos, la verdad de ese lugar nos interpela: debemos buscar la solución del enigma, hallar la manera de contarlo (visualmente) y darle sentido. La alerta del encuentro activa los resortes de la imaginación, que rastrea dentro de nosotros conexiones afectivas acumuladas, en su mayoría inconscientes, y alimenta ese algo inescrutable que nos atrapa. Precisamente el asombro de ver hacia dentro consiste en sorprenderse continuamente, en esforzarse por añadir sentimiento superando la interpretación geográfica. La percepción sensible desvela, no es mero registro ni debe afanarse en la cartografía.

In photography, the gaze constructs the place. No place would exist before being an image without the determination of someone who contemplates in a self-absorbed way. The link is not conscious, it requires an introspective process, stopping where no one else has stopped. Assuming that portion of the landscape as one’s own is an exercise in concentration. Without expecting it, spontaneously, an exchange is created between the attentive observer and that significant place, a correspondence that soon becomes an obsession. For an expectant artist, any encounter with Nature is a key to be deciphered. Firmly before our eyes, the truth of that place challenges us: we must seek the solution to the enigma, find a way to tell it (visually) and make sense of it. The alert of the encounter activates the springs of the imagination, which traces within us accumulated affective connections, mostly unconscious, and feeds that inscrutable something that traps us. Precisely the astonishment of looking inward consists in continually being surprised, in striving to add feeling beyond geographical interpretation. Sensitive perception unveils, it is not a mere register, nor should it strive for cartography.
